Happy Leap Day!
February
29 is known as leap day in the Gregorian calender it's a date that
occurs in most years evenly divisible by 4, such as 2004, 2008, 2012,
2016 etc. Years
evenly divisible by 100 do not contain a leap day. An exception of
years evenly divisible by 400 were 1900 which did not contain a leap day
while 2000 did.
Years that contain a leap day are called leap years.
Most years of modern calendars have 365 days, a complete revolution
around the sun takes 365 day and 6 hours. So every four years, during
which an extra 24 hours have accumulated, one extra day is added to keep
the count coordinated with the sun's apparent position.
A person who is born on February 29th may be called a "leaping" or "leap year baby".
In non-leap years some celebrate their birthday on either February 28
or March 1, while others observe their birthdays once every four years.
Wow...that's like being suspended in time...maybe they age slower
too...that would be a real birthday present!
So
this year we can say "if I could just have another day" an additional
24 hours to achieve something spectacular, well, we do...it's today!
